PAUL’S
INSTRUCTIONS TO TIMOTHY
“Command and teach
these things. Don’t let any one look down on you because you are young, but
set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and
in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture
to preaching and teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given you
through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Be diligent in these
matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your
progress.
I charge you, in the
sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these
instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.
Timothy, guard what
has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the
opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have
professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith.
Do your best to present yourself to god as one approved, a workman who does
not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
Preach the Word; be
prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with
great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men
will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suite their own desires,
they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their
itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth
and turn aside unto myths. But you keep your head in all situations, endure
hardship, do the work of an evangelist. Discharge all the duties of your
ministry.”
